This is not the hottest August I’ve lived through. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley. There was one summer in the mid-2010s that I walked my bike a mile up the road to my house and ended the night with a sun-induced fever. So this year, despite the little leagues heat waves, I’ve been enjoying the weather.

Limbs feeling goosey, chlorine stinging my eyes like a red carpet camera flash. I’m playing music out loud this month, giving my headphones a break. The sounds push through air molecules like they’re searching for me in a crowd at a festival.

I’m moving fast. The heat is not slowing me down. I’m hoping September is the same.
